Contentment

“One of the greatest mistakes is to think that contentment comes from something outside us rather than from the quality of the soul. All evils become lighter if we endure them patiently, but the greatest benefits can be poisoned by discontent. The miseries of life are sufficiently deep and extensive, without our adding to them unnecessarily. A contented man is never really poor though he may have very, very little. The discontented man is never rich, let him have so very much.”

For context*: I’m never been too big of a fan of resolutions, highly attributed to my inability to follow through with them. Reflecting on my 2018 resolutions, however, I found that I actually completed a bunch of them! So I’m decided to set a few again. I’m not sharing here what they are, but every year (umm, since 2018) I wanted to learn a new skill. Last year was R, and this year, taking photos. Since travelling this summer, I’ve enjoyed the times I’ve gone on walks with taking snippets of things that stand out to me. A narrow, ghostly road. A heartfelt interaction. Majestic sceneries. Small details. I’m not the creative type, but there’s something about capturing an undisturbed moment of something, someone, that makes my heart and mind wander.

So with my new camera and handy instruction manual in hand, I started taking walks with my camera! There’s a song, or passage from a book that I think about as I walk, as some form of guidance along the way.

Also, tips from photographers out there would be very welcomed. Let me know if I can tag along with you!
